| Dr. Berson is
Professor, Department of Business Management, Borough of Manhattan
Community College, City University of New York.
To quote Dr. Berson:
"One might suppose
that to understand capitalism, a judicious sampling of the
non-fictional literature would yield an enlightening syllabus for
study. Yet for all the business sources which purport to do this,
there is still something--something important--missing...The
quality of capitalism absent from its non-fiction is intensely
human; it comprises the feelings, emotions and true motives
associated with the making of business decisions.
...This leaves the fictional literature of business as the
remaining convenient source of honest information about "the real
world" of business experience. Despite the paradox of using
fiction to comprehend fact, when it comes to business, fiction is
often truer than fact.
...Business novels depict managers and entrepreneurs making
decisions in behalf of or influenced by businesses for whose
success they are responsible". |
